The Director General of ANDMA met with the President of IFRC in Afghanistan
This morning Thursday, the Director-General of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, Honorable Alhaj Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, met in his office with the newly appointed President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for Afghanistan, Dr. Hussam Faisal and the Federation’s Advisor, Mr. Ahmad Sulaiman. The meeting focused on enhancing mutual cooperation and discussing matters of common interest.
During the meeting, Honorable Turabi Sahb stated that there are numerous areas of shared work between the two organizations. He emphasized that ANDMA maintains excellent cooperation with all government institutions and humanitarian organizations, and the same approach will be continued with the IFRC. He highlighted the facilities provided to humanitarian organizations within the framework of existing agreements and noted that discussions on joint cooperation had previously been held with the former IFRC President, but remained incomplete due to certain reasons.
The Director-General assured that any assistance entrusted to ANDMA by humanitarian organizations would be delivered to the deserving beneficiaries quickly and with full transparency.
Meanwhile, the new IFRC President, Dr. Hussam Faisal, referred to his extensive experience in disaster management and described Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority as an important and effective institution. He expressed strong interest in close cooperation with ANDMA, stressing the need to develop a framework agreement that clearly defines the scope and level of cooperation both before and after disasters occur.
On the other hand, IFRC Advisor Ahmad Sulaiman praised the previous relations between the two organizations and noted that just the day before, during an important meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the effective performance of ANDMA and its strong coordination with humanitarian organizations had been highlighted and highly appreciated.
In conclusion, both sides emphasized the importance of establishing a technical committee to draft a memorandum of understanding between the two organizations. This agreement would clearly outline the scope of cooperation both in preparedness (before disasters) and response (after disasters).
