The delegation included Mr. Christopher William (Kinder), Chairman of the Board of Trustees of AfghanAid’s London office, Mr. Robin James Sinclair Tyler, Mr. Mark Rainer Bowden and Mr. Nigel David Powell, members of the Board of Trustees, as well as Mr. Charles (Davy), Country Director of AfghanAid in Afghanistan, Mr. Abdul Rahman Tariq, the Head of Program Implementation and Quality for AfghanAid in Afghanistan, and Mr. Mohammad Fawad Dawodzada, Project Manager at AfghanAid.
Alhaj Turabi Sahb warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his gratitude, stating, “First and foremost, we sincerely thank you for your 43 years of service in Afghanistan and your continued commitment to this cause.”
He further emphasized that Afghanistan requires significant efforts in every sector, particularly in disaster management, as the country faces both natural and man-made disasters, all of which are referred to Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority for resolution. He outlined that the authority operates in five key areas: prevention, preparedness, response, relief and recovery. He stressed the importance of prevention, noting that implementing preventive projects can mitigate significant damage at minimal cost. Specifically, he highlighted the need for constructing check dams, which serve dual purposes: storing water and preventing damage from uncontrolled water flow.
Mr. Charles, the Country Director of AfghanAid, began by expressing his gratitude to the General Director and his team for their hospitality and for granting the opportunity for this meeting. He commended the authority for its transparency and efficiency in operations.
Mr. Charles further noted that AfghanAid has been active in 13 provinces of Afghanistan for 43 years, providing services to the Afghan people in various sectors. He announced that AfghanAid has allocated a budget of 16 million pounds for Afghanistan this year, of which 1.5 million pounds is specifically dedicated to disaster management. He added that a memorandum of understanding would be signed in the future to formalize collaboration.
The visiting delegation expressed their appreciation to the General General noting the significant improvements observed within the authority. They affirmed their commitment to working through the authority to deliver enhanced services to the Afghan people.
