On Tuesday morning, following the directives of the esteemed Economic Deputy of the Prime Minister’s Office of IEA, the process of closing down fuel tanks and petrol stations in District 14 of Kabul City that failed to comply with fire prevention safety standards was initiated by the Permanent Committee for Fire Prevention.
During the closure process, Qari Ajmal Omari, a fire safety expert from Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, stated that the fuel tanks and petrol stations that did not adhere to the fire prevention safety measures and checklists previously shared with them were shut down. He urged all petrol station owners to comply with the precautionary measures provided to them to ensure the safety of their lives and property.
Mr. Omari further noted that approximately one and a half years ago, under the guidance of the esteemed Economic Deputy of the Prime Minister’s Office, a committee was established to implement fire prevention measures. As part of this initiative, 150 fuel tanks and petrol stations were inspected, and a report on 89 of them was submitted to the Economic Deputy’s Office. Of these, 55 fuel tanks and petrol stations were approved for closure by the Economic Deputy of the Prime Minister’s Office of IEA due to their non-compliance with standards.
He emphasized that the purpose of establishing the Fire Prevention Committee is to implement precautionary measures to protect lives, property, and national assets across the country.
It is noteworthy that the Permanent Committee for Fire Prevention distributed checklists to 370 fuel tanks and petrol stations. Of these, 55 fuel tanks were inspected, with one classified as standard, 31 as relatively standard, six as semi-standard and 17 as non-standard. The inspection process for fuel tanks is ongoing.
